Good to know

This is a basic overview of electronic Omaha poker and the rules of the game. Once there, feel free to ask the attendant any questions you may have. They’re there to help.

• Taking a seat at the table

  Just choose a seat at the electronic gaming table and log in to the terminal in front of you. The minimum number of players is two, and the maximum is eight.

• The initial bets

  The blind bets are automatically placed by the first and second players to the left of the position marked by the virtual dealer button. These bets must comply with the limits posted on-screen.

• Cards and combinations in decreasing order

  Omaha is played with 52 cards. In decreasing order, the rank of the cards is ace, king, queen, jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2. The ace can, however, be used to create an ace-2-3-4-5 straight flush.

  Here are the possible combinations, in decreasing order:

  - Royal flush: A hand containing an ace, a king, a queen, a jack and a 10 of the same suit

  - Straight flush: A series of five consecutive cards of the same colour

  - Four of a kind: A hand containing four cards of the same rank

  - Full house: A hand containing three cards of the same rank (three of a kind) and a pair

  - Flush: A combination of five cards of the same suit

  - Straight: A hand containing five consecutive cards regardless of suit

  - Three of a kind: Three cards of the same rank

  - Two pair: Two pairs (the rank of the hand is determined by the higher of the two pairs)

  - Pair: Two cards of the same rank

  - High card: The highest-ranking card

• How to play

  The virtual dealer button:
  It automatically moves between every hand to determine the card-dealing order and the betting order.

  The first round of cards and the first betting round:
  Starting with the first player to the left of the virtual dealer button, every player receives four cards, face down. When all players have their cards in hand, the first betting round begins. Players may call the big blind, raise or fold.

  The flop and the second betting round:
  Three community cards, also known as the flop, are dealt at the centre. A second betting round follows.

  The turn and the third betting round:
  A fourth community card, called the turn, is dealt. A third betting round follows.

  The river and the fourth betting round:
  A fifth community card, referred to as the river, is dealt. A fourth and final betting round follows.

  The showdown:
  During the showdown, every player who still holds their four cards forms the highest-ranking five-card hand to win the pot. They must use two of their four cards and three of the community cards.

• Five possible decisions for the players

  - Check: Declining to bet while remaining in the hand, provided no bet has been made
  
  - Bet: Placing an initial wager into the pot
  
  - Call: Matching the previous player’s bet by placing the same amount into the pot
  
  - Raise: Increasing the previous bet by placing a higher wager into the pot
  
  - Fold: Withdrawing from the hand and forfeiting any chance of winning the pot

• Winning or losing hand

  The winning player is the one whose hand ranks highest during the showdown. They win the pot. Players who hold an identical winning hand split the pot.

  When two or more five-card hands have identical combinations, the winning hand is the one with the kicker (the highest-ranking card not included in the combination). If all kickers are of equal rank, the hands are considered identical.

  If two players have the same combination, the winning hand is the one with the highest kicker (or the one with the highest-ranking kicker). A tie occurs if the players’ kickers are of equal rank.
